Clean, ironed, fragrant bed linen is the key to a quality night's rest and pleasant dreams. But sometimes it happens that the laundry exudes a far from pleasant smell, which can be quite difficult to get rid of. But probably! You just need to follow the basic rules of care and know a few tricks.

Washing

Most often, the cause of the unpleasant smell of bed linen is a violation of the rules of care:

  • too long storage in a basket with other dirty things, due to which extraneous odors are very strongly absorbed into the fabric;
  • accelerated washing cycle (as a rule, bedding requires a long washing time, including an additional rinse cycle, otherwise, dirt is not completely washed out of the fabric);
  • washing without air conditioning (it is this tool that can kill the unpleasant odor and give the linen softness);
  • too long a bed in the washing machine after the end of the wash cycle (in this case, the laundry may "suffocate").

Drying

Our grandmothers were very fond of drying bedding in the cold: it was believed that this gives it a special freshness. Today, powders with a “frosty” aroma have come to replace them, because far from everyone has the opportunity to hang clothes in the open air. However, it is very important to ensure that there is sufficient air circulation during drying to prevent an unpleasant musty odor. A spacious loggia, balcony or well-ventilated room is best suited for these purposes. And one more thing: it is important to make it a rule and hang up the laundry immediately after the completion of the wash cycle.

Storage

There are several nuances of storing bed linen to ensure its freshness:

  • After the bedding has become dry, do not rush to immediately put it on the shelves - you need to let it air out a little more.
  • Do not store linen with clothes: for these purposes, it is necessary to allocate a separate shelf or drawer. The fabric quickly absorbs extraneous odors of "worn" things and the street, so you can not place just washed linen and things that are worn daily next to it.
  • It is important to regularly ventilate the closet or chest of drawers in which the bedding is stored so that air does not stagnate in them.

«Aromatherapy»

To give the fabric your favorite scent, you can use several methods:

  • Fragrant soap. The simplest option, known since ancient times. All you need to do is place a bar of fragrant soap in the closet between folded bed linen, which will absorb its smell over time.
  • Sachet. Small bags with fragrant herbs, petals or needles inside can be bought or sewn with your own hands. Textile perfectly absorbs and “holds” the aroma, so this product will last for a long time.
  • Essential oil. It is enough to put a few drops on a clean cotton handkerchief and place it where the bed linen is stored. In order for the aroma to be constantly present, the procedure must be repeated periodically. An important nuance: you should choose only those flavors that you like. If the smell seems too harsh or causes dizziness, it is better to refuse it, replacing it with another one. In summer, subtle citrus and herbal scents are usually used. In the cold season, you can experiment with lavender, pine needles, verbena and vanilla.
  • Perfume. A few drops of your favorite perfume can also be applied to a piece of cloth (like an essential oil). Or add to a spray bottle and spray on bedding while ironing.
